Company History

Brothers Clarence J. and Don Thompson established Thompson Brothers Welding & Industrial Supplies, Inc. in 1948. The establishment was originally located in a room at the Roller Dome Skating Rink and was later moved to a warehouse at the rear of the rink. Finally, it was relocated to its present location at 2319 West Eighth Street. Thompson Brothers was incorporated in Kansas on March 26, 1965. In 1978, Rick, Nick and Tommy Thompson and Jim McGuire purchased the business after the death of Clarence J. Thompson. Today, Rick Thompson, Nick Thompson, and Jim McGuire continue the tradition of Thompson Brothers.

Thompson Brothers currently employs thirty-one people on a full or part-time basis. In June 1997 we added our Bartlesville store and now have a total of over 50,000 square feet of space including showroom, primary warehouse, cylinder handling facility, and secondary warehouse. The primary markets which we serve, include welding, industrial and automotive refinishing supplies. We maintain a large fleet of both portable and stationary welding machines and associated equipment available on a rental basis and our fully certified service center provides service on all of the products that we sell.

Thompson Brothers makes regularly scheduled deliveries in Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma and Southwest Missouri. Our regular route deliveries cover an area of approximately 70 miles in radius going North to Iola, Kansas, East to Joplin, Missouri, South to Tulsa, Oklahoma and West to Sedan, Kansas. We also offer daily UPS service to those customers not within our immediate trade area.

Our cylinder handling facility on West Fourth Street is fully equipped to package Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon, Carbon Dioxide and Propane and virtually any specialty mixture that you may need. We have the capability to offer in house certification of welding gases and can provide certified EPA and primary standard gasses to meet most government regulations. Our Fourth Street facility also houses our full cylinder maintenance program. We are equipped to handle hydrostatic cylinder testing and all other cylinder maintenance for ourselves as well as other area distributors.

Thompson Brothers continues to be a family owned and operated business serving the area with old-fashioned values and service while taking advantage of the latest technology available to carry our customers and company into the twenty-first century.
